Earthquakes from a Scottish Terrier’s perspective

It’s a while since I’ve been in touch with the wider world…& much has happened….I’ve grown up fast…especially of late. I’m managing my back leg problem in my own non complaining way…although I think Bruce has noticed how I tend to trot down the street a little bit sideways which helps me keep control of where my right foot goes. But here at Le Petit Hotel for quite some time, I’ve been quietly sitting down in the lounge and suddenly the building begins to shake violently, and everything starts flying around…..I’ve been lucky so far not to be clobbered by a variety of flying or falling objects, & I don’t really understand what’s going on, but I can read the signs that both Martine & Bruce are very anxious about all the strange happenings. I’ve devised my own way of coping with the unexpected loud bangs under the hotel floor by leaping to my feet while doing a 360 deg twirl so that I can judge which way to run from the nasties, who I haven’t seen yet.

Even at night time when we go for a walk…I’m on my guard and when the ground starts to rumble…before the shaking begins, I turn tail immediately & head back to the hotel real fast, pulling Bruce along with me. I’m lucky though, there is special compensation for me ‘ now at about 6am each morning,… I’m allowed to have a small snooze on the end of B & M’s bed….

Despite these strange ground shaking events, I’m still performing my hotel guest welcoming routine…racing down the stairs to reach the front door before Bruce, so I can see the new guests first. I really live for my meet & greet job.

Le Petit Hotel by the beach in Sumner is open for B & B business as at 24 Dec. 2011.

Both short & long stay guests are most well.

The daily room rate includes a served French breakfast and the hotel has free WiFi services throughout the complex. The en-suite accommodation is most suitable for 2 adults.

Immediate News: Le Petit Hotel Sumner reopened its Bed & Breakfast services on Sunday 6th March 2011.

The Sumner French Hotel, survived the major earthquake which occurred just a few kilometers way, in Lyttelton, on Tuesday, 22nd February, 2011. The G forces experienced within the hotel were sufficient to relocate the grand piano in the lounge and tear an electric oven from the wall in the hotel apartment. Almost all breakables within the bed & breakfast building such as glassware, porcelain china etc were smashed in the mayhem. However such damage was/is insignificant compared to the loss of life and huge collateral damage to buildings and infrastructure within the city and other eastern suburbs. We consider ourselves very very fortunate.

The main route to Sumner from the airport is via Memorial Avenue, around Hagley Park and onto Moorhouse Avenue; then Ferry Road and onto Sumner via Redcliffs. Care is required, especially at night due to changing road diversions and damaged road surfaces.

Hi there all Scottie lovers…It’s almost 15 months since I left behind my friends at Juscot Kennels in Hamilton, and I’ve had my 1st birthday at Le Petit Hotel. Despite having inherited a twisted right hind leg, I’m doing my utmost to be part of the hotel day to day operations…answering the door, checking the guests in, plus security duties, so much so that several of Bruce & Martine’s guests have suggested that I climb into one of their suitcases & go home with them… Unlike many of my 4 legged relatives, I have developed my own vocabulary for use in the hotel..eg. when I want to go outside, I don’t bark, but I do a bit of a quiet sing song. I’m also quite good at singing along with the piano!
Sometime in the next few months, I’m going into hospital to get a CT scan done on my crooked leg, to see what can possibly be done to help me…but I’m a good patient, so it won’t be a problem.
My shiny black coat at the moment makes me a difficult camera subject, but attached here is a recent photo taken on Christmas day with one of my presents.
